CAMELFORD AND THE SURROUNDING AREA
| |
|
Camelford is an attractive and ancient town, which is situated
on the River Camel and lies on the edge of Bodmin Moor. It is
about six miles inland from the spectacular North Cornwall coastline,
with the delightful villages of Boscastle and Tintagel, and the
beautiful beaches of Bossiney and Trebarwith Strand.
The scenic expanse of Bodmin Moor spreads away to the east and
north of the town, On the Moor there are fascinating villages
such as St Breward and Blisland.

Camelford is at the heart of a marvellous
area for touring, walking, fishing, swimming and surfing.
It is steeped in history and legend. The towns itself, and
its immediate area, offer excellent shopping facilities
and sporting facilities for golf, swimming and other activities. |
Delabole, famous for its slate quarry, 425ft
deep and more than a mile and a half in circumference. Delabole
is also home to Britain’s first commercial wind farm,
is within the catchment area of the Camelford office. The
village is long in formation, and has shops, garages, churches,
post office, toilets, and a playing field. The local pubs
are delightful, and there are footpaths to explore where
cottages and farmsteads of ancient Cornwall can be spotted.

Boscastle, glorious with its Three Inns, three
Rivers, three Churches and The Elizabethan Harbour. The
harbour built in 1584 by Sir Richard Grenville of 'Revenge'
fame, has been the scene of many acts of heroism and treachery
over the years with privateers and volunteers, smugglers
and wreckers. There is the splendid blowhole which can been
seen an hour before low water with a rough sea rendering
water and spray across the harbour mouth.
Tintagel has historic buildings such as "The Old Post
Office", St Materianas Church, the ruined Castle, King
Arthur's Hall of Chivalry, and the Chapel of Our Lady of
Fontevrault, which all form Tintagel’s heritage. Complemented
by the hamlets of Treknow, Tregatta, and Trewarmett and
many other places to explore.
There is many natural and spectacular coves and rock formations
to be enjoyed especially between Tregardock and Boscastle,
probably the world's finest coastline. We hope you enjoy
this mere sample of King Arthur Country, and although words
can conjure up imaginative thoughts, the sights and sounds
of Cornwall are everlasting memories. |
